The Skills for Transition Program provides training opportunities for approximately 2,000 transitioning service members and/or recently separated veterans over the next couple of years. The funding will complement the efforts of the other transition programs and provide training opportunities to service members preparing for employment in high-growth, high-demand occupations.
The Texas Skills to Work program is designed to help you use your military experience to transition to a job you already know how to do in the civilian workforce. The program assists service members by translating military experience into civilian terms and skill sets. After translation, it matches the civilian skill set with online job postings requiring those same skills.
One million dollars has been allocated to Workforce Boards in nine military base locations in the State of Texas. The goal of this pilot program is to focus efforts on the military spouse population by providing enhanced job search assistance, assessment of skills, labor market information, resume writing and interview skills, and if funding is available, to support training in targeted occupations.
